Idioms and Phrases

  An idiom is an expression whose meaning is different from the meaning of its constituent words. Knowledge of idioms is an important part of comprehension of the English language. Below is a list of some commonly used idioms in English with their meaning and usage.

1.Rainy Day                             - கஷ்ட கலம்
2.Fish out of Water                   - உயிருக்கு போராடும் நிலை
3.Blow the own trumphet          - சுய விளம்பரம் செய்தல் / தன்னைத்தானே புகழ்ந்து     பேசுதல்.
4.Crying for split milk               -முடிந்த காரியத்தை நினைத்து வருத்தப்படுதல்.
5.Hold the tongue                    -நாக்கை அடக்கி பேசுதல்.
6.Slip of the tongue                 -வாய் தவறி பேசுதல்.
7.Free Rider                           -எதையும் இலவசமாக பெற விரும்புபவர்.
8.Sailing in the same boat        -இருவரும் ஒருவிதமான நிலையில் இருப்பது.
9.Room is not build in a day    - எந்தக் காரியமும் ஒரே நாளில் செய்ய முடியாது.
10.Ball is in your court            - நிலைமை உனக்கு சாதகமாக உள்ளது.

1.TURN OVER A NEW LEAF        -  Changing your better for the better
   After Ajit was released from prison, he decided to turn over a new leaf and 
   become an honest man.
2.PULL UP ONE’S SOCKS        - To make an effort to improve
    Rajesh got only forty percentage marks in the English mid-term exams. He
    needs to pull up his socksif he has to score well in his final exams.
2.HIT BELOW THE BELT        - To act in an unfair matter
    The candidate of the opposition party spread false rumours about the
    Minister. People felt that it was an act of hitting below the belt.
3.GIFT OF THE GAB            - The ability to speak well
    Pooja was able to keep the audiences amused with her stories. She surely
    has the gift of the gab.
4.WILD GOOSE CHASE        - Futile search
    Searching for hidden gold in the village field is nothing but a wild goose chase.
5.HAVE SECOND THOUGHTS    - Reconsideration of a decision
   When Rajiv could not answer any question in the Economics assignment,
   he started having second thoughts about his decision to take Economics as 
   his main subject.
6.TAKE TO TASK            - To reprimand someone
   Payal was taken to task by her mother when she found out that she had
   failed her Mathematics exam.
7.FACE THE MUSIC                - To face the consequences of one’s action
   I lost my father’s pen. I will have to face the music when I reach home.

Importance of Education..Education is very important for an individual's success in life. Education provides pupils teaching skills that prepare them physically, mentally and socially for the world of work in later life. Education is generally seen as the foundation of society which brings economic wealth, social prosperity and political stability.
Higher education helps in maintaining a healthy society which prepares health care professionals, educated health care consumers and maintaining healthy population. Education is major aspect of development of any modern society since if there is a deficit of educated people then society will stops its further progress. Government should pay serious attention to education and support it economically and morally all over the country.
Education is the best investment for the people because well educated people have more opportunities to get a job which gives them satisfaction. Educated individuals enjoy respect among their colleagues and they can effectively contribute to the development of their country and society by inventing new devices and discoveries.
Main purpose of education is to educate individuals within society, to prepare and qualify them for work in economy as well as to integrate people into society and teach them values and morals of society.
Role of education is means of socializing individuals and to keep society smoothing and remain stable. Education in society prepares youngsters for adulthood so that they may form the next generation of leaders.
Education is an important aspect of the work of society and it will raise the countryside issues and promote knowledge and understanding of rural communities. One of the education essential tasks is to enable people to understand themselves. Students must be equipped with knowledge and skills which are needed to participate effectively as member of society and contribute towards the development of shared values and common identity.
Education has a vital role to play in assisting students to understand their cultural identity. Education acts as the distribution mechanism of the cultural values such as it more layered the society and participate in society that carries the culture.
Everyone must do work hard to cultivate moral conduct.Education mainly begins at home; one does not acquire knowledge from a teacher, one can learn and get knowledge from a parent or a family member.
In that way we decided to help the children and youngster of our society trough giving valuable education, counseling, value added curses and motivate them to face the competitive world with confidence.
